Stock Market Update Wednesday April 16, 2025 Equities took a hit, with the S&P 500 sliding 2.2%, although the index managed to pare losses into the close, ending roughly 0.5% above its session low.


Away From Stocks: Treasuries rallied across the curve, with notable strength in the belly and long end—the 2-year yield declined 7 basis points to 3.77%, while the 30-year yield slipped 5 basis points to 4.74%. WTI crude edged higher, approaching $63 per barrel, while gold extended its explosive rally, surging nearly 4% to settle at $3,337 per ounce. Bitcoin hovered just above the $84,000 mark, maintaining recent gains. Meanwhile, volatility spiked, with the VIX climbing nearly 3 points to close around 33.
