Stock Market Update Wednesday April 1, 2026 Equities extended Tuesday’s risk-on momentum, with stocks building on the prior session’s sharp rebound. The S&P 500 advanced 0.7%, although the benchmark finished notably below its mid-afternoon highs as investors turned more cautious ahead of President Trump’s scheduled evening address.
Leadership remained consistent with the prior session, as technology, industrials, and consumer discretionary sectors outperformed, reflecting continued rotation into cyclical and growth-sensitive exposures. Energy shares lagged, pressured by a pullback in crude prices.
Score Board:
S&P 500 (SPX): +0.7%
Nasdaq-100 (QQQ): +1.2%
Russell 2000 (IWM): +0.6%
Away From Stocks: Treasuries softened modestly, with yields drifting higher across the curve. The 2-year yield rose 2 bps to 3.81%, while the 30-year yield climbed 3 bps to 4.91%, suggesting a mild repricing of near-term rate expectations amid improving risk sentiment.
In commodities, WTI crude slipped back below $100 per barrel, weighing on energy equities, while gold surged nearly 3% to $4,770 per ounce, extending its strong safe-haven bid despite firmer equities and higher yields — a sign that geopolitical hedging demand remains elevated.
Digital assets were relatively stable, with Bitcoin holding near $68,000, while implied equity volatility eased, as the VIX closed below the 25 level, signaling a gradual normalization in market stress conditions.

Our investment approach is disciplined and long-only. We do not engage in short selling. In our long-term portfolio, we focus exclusively on high-quality companies with a demonstrated history of operational excellence and consistent shareholder value creation. However, in our short-term speculative portfolio, some stocks we post may be driven by other factors, such as notable options flow, proprietary algorithms and seasonality. We rely on our proprietary algorithms to identify high-probability entry points, whether to initiate new positions or to strategically add to existing holdings.
