Stock Market Update Tuesday December 16, 2025 U.S. equities remained under pressure, with the S&P 500 slipping 0.25%, marking its third consecutive decline as risk sentiment softened across sectors.
Away From Stocks: Treasurys attracted modest safe-haven flows, with yields edging lower along the curve — the 2-year yield declined 3 bps to 3.48%, while the 30-year yield eased 2 bps to 4.82%, reflecting a mild bull-steepening in the curve. WTI crude extended its slide, breaking below $55 per barrel for the first time since February 2021, as oversupply concerns and softening demand expectations weighed on energy markets. Gold held steady above $4,300 per ounce, consolidating after recent gains amid a weaker dollar backdrop. Bitcoin advanced toward the $88,000 level, continuing its strong upward momentum, while volatility remained contained — the VIX closed near 16.5, little changed on the session.
