Stock Market Update Thursday March 5, 2026 The S&P 500 fell 1.2% midday, but a late rally reduced the losses to 0.6% by the close. Oil prices rising above $80 put renewed pressure on stocks throughout the day. The Materials and Industrials sectors declined the most, while the Tech sector performed relatively better. AVGO's strong earnings helped the tech group, along with continued gains in software stocks. The IGV (software ETF) increased by over 2%, with TTD and OKTA showing significant strength. Energy stocks increased for most of the day due to the rise in oil prices. Small-cap stocks declined significantly as yields increased. In after-hours trading, MRVL is up 8% following its earnings report. COST also reported earnings, but its stock price hasn't moved much so far. The White House responded to rising energy prices by announcing measures aimed at addressing the issue, including actions in the futures market. This announcement eased oil prices, allowing stocks to recover from their lows.

Our investment approach is disciplined and long-only. We do not engage in short selling. In our long-term portfolio, we focus exclusively on high-quality companies with a demonstrated history of operational excellence and consistent shareholder value creation. However, in our short-term speculative portfolio, some stocks we post may be driven by other factors, such as notable options flow, proprietary algorithms and seasonality. We rely on our proprietary algorithms to identify high-probability entry points, whether to initiate new positions or to strategically add to existing holdings.
