Stock Market Update Thursday December 4, 2025 Market Recap:It was a choppy session that ultimately ground out modest gains into the close, as investors showed clear hesitation to take on new risk following last week’s robust relief rally and with the December FOMC rate decision now less than a week away. Small caps outperformed once again, even as Treasury yields firmed. The Russell 2000 (IWM) tacked on nearly 0.8%, putting it back near record highs and on the verge of a potential breakout, a sign of improving risk appetite beneath the surface.
Score Board:
S&P 500 (SPX): +0.10%
Nasdaq 100 (QQQ): +0.28%
Russell 2000 (IWM): +0.80%

The 2-year Treasury yield rose by 3 basis points to 3.52%, and the 30-year Treasury yield also increased by 3 basis points to 4.76%, indicating a slight steepening of the yield curve. The VIX (volatility index) decreased to a six-week low, falling below 16, suggesting low volatility in the market.
