Stock Market Update Friday April 11, 2025 Markets opened under pressure, threatening to extend Thursday’s declines, but the weakness was short-lived. A strong intraday reversal pushed major indices sharply higher, capping off an exceptionally volatile week.

  • Friday performance: S&P 500 +1.8%, Nasdaq-100 (QQQ) +1.9%, Russell 2000 (IWM) +1.5%

  • Weekly performance: S&P 500 gained approximately 5%, despite a roughly 13% peak-to-trough range marked by several sharp intraday swings.

Away From Stocks: Treasury yields rose across the curve, with front-end selling leading the move. The 2-year yield climbed 12 basis points to 3.96%, while the 10-year rose 8 basis points to 4.48%. The 30-year held relatively steady at 4.85%, inching down just 1 bp on the day.

WTI crude continued its climb, approaching $62 per barrel. Gold surged to $3,235 per ounce, extending its recent breakout. Bitcoin advanced to just under $84,000, and the VIX fell to just below 36—down 11 points from last Friday—reflecting a sharp drop in implied volatility despite this week’s turbulence.

Going forward, macroeconomics will be a key factor. Today's Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index significantly underperformed expectations, with a forecast of 54.5 but an actual result of 50.8. The fact that markets didn't decline suggests that negative news is already anticipated.
