Stock Market Update Tuesday March 24, 2026 The S&P 500 experienced an up-and-down day, losing some of the previous day's gains. Market movements were mainly influenced by news headlines, particularly those concerning Iran. Rising Treasury yields, a poor Treasury auction, and renewed tech sector weakness due to AI competition also played a role. Sector performance varied, with software stocks declining the most and materials and energy stocks rising. Small-cap stocks performed well despite higher yields, suggesting some investor risk-taking. After the market closed, reports of a possible 30-day cease-fire in Israel caused significant market reactions. Oil prices decreased, and equity futures increased, as geopolitical risk concerns eased. In after-hours trading, the SPY (S&P 500 ETF) rose about 0.7%, while USO (United States Oil Fund) fell approximately 3%.
Score Board:

The U.S. dollar strengthened, with DXY climbing toward 99.40 alongside earlier firmness in oil prices.
