Stock Market Update Tuesday July 7, 2026 Stocks retreated on the session, with the S&P 500 slipping 0.5% while the Nasdaq 100 fell nearly 2% as weakness across the semiconductor complex intensified. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) extended its pullback to roughly 16% from its recent peak, highlighting ongoing profit-taking and a broader rotation out of high-beta technology shares.

Away From Stocks: Treasurys came under pressure as yields moved higher across the curve. The two-year Treasury yield climbed six basis points to 4.19%, while the 30-year yield rose six basis points to 5.05%, reflecting renewed concerns over inflation and the prospect of a higher-for-longer rate environment. WTI crude surged 5% to $72 per barrel after Washington revoked a waiver that had allowed certain Iranian oil exports, raising concerns about tighter global energy supplies. Gold declined 1% to $4,114 per ounce as rising real yields weighed on precious metals, while bitcoin held relatively steady near $64,000. Meanwhile, market volatility ticked higher, with the VIX climbing above 16 as investors sought downside protection amid the technology-led selloff.
