Stock Market Update Tuesday April 28, 2026 Stocks traded under modest pressure, with the S&P 500 slipping 0.5% as two key macro themes weighed on risk assets. First, the lack of meaningful progress in Iran negotiations helped propel crude higher, with WTI reclaiming the psychologically significant $100 per barrel level—an upside threshold we previously highlighted as a potential catalyst to stall the recent equity rally. Second, renewed skepticism around the AI growth narrative emerged following OpenAI-related revenue headlines, pressuring segments of the AI complex ahead of a pivotal slate of Magnificent Seven earnings over the next several sessions. In after-hours trading, Seagate (STX) surged 14%, Bloom Energy (BE) advanced 9%, and Visa (V) gained 5%, while Robinhood (HOOD) fell 6% following their respective earnings releases. Management commentary and forward guidance on upcoming conference calls remain in focus.

Away From Stocks: Treasurys saw a bear-flattening move, pushing the 2-year yield up to 3.84%, matching its highest level since April 6. In commodities, WTI crude climbed to $100 per barrel, gold slipped below $4,600, and bitcoin eased toward $76,000. Notably, despite the broader risk-off tone, the VIX declined below 18.
