Stock Market Update Thursday January 15, 2026 U.S. Equities rebounded Thursday as gains in technology and small-cap stocks offset mixed earnings and uneven economic data. Despite weekly declines for the S&P 500 and the Dow, semiconductors led the advance. Nvidia climbed after Taiwan Semiconductor delivered a strong earnings report, lifting the broader chip complex.

Small caps continued to outperform, with the Russell 2000 beating the S&P 500 for a tenth consecutive session. Bank stocks were mixed, but overall risk appetite held firm as investors positioned for continued economic expansion, even as momentum in mega-cap tech shows signs of cooling.

The S&P 500 rose 0.3% to 6,944, the Dow added 0.6% to 49,442, and the Nasdaq gained 0.2% to 23,530.

Away From Stocks: Treasury yields flattened. The two-year yield rose five basis points to 3.56%, while the 30-year bond held near 4.79%. WTI crude slipped to $59 a barrel, gold edged lower to $4,615 an ounce, and bitcoin traded around $95,000. Volatility eased, with the VIX falling below 16.
