Stock Market Update Thursday December 11, 2025 SPX has a Record Close; AVGO Beats After Hours Equities opened on a softer note, retracing part of yesterday’s rate-cut-fueled rally, as Oracle’s (ORCL) post-earnings gap lower weighed on large-cap tech. However, strength in cyclicals and small caps offset early weakness, allowing the S&P 500 (SPX) to claw back losses and notch a fresh all-time closing high.

Away From Stocks:

  • SPX: +0.2% — closes at a record high

  • QQQ: -0.4% — tech underperforms amid ORCL drag

  • IWM: +1.2% — small caps extend leadership on rate optimism

Away From Stocks: Gold surged to another record, topping $4,300/oz, as lower yields and a softer dollar continued to bolster demand. The DXY slipped further to 98.32, marking its lowest level in months. Treasuries saw modest bid-side support, with the 10-year yield (US10Y) edging below 4.15%, extending the recent downtrend. Meanwhile, volatility collapsed, with the VIX sliding to 14.55, its lowest reading since September — signaling renewed complacency as equity indices grind higher.
