Stock Market Update Thursday August 28, 2025 The S&P 500 finally broke through the 6,500 mark today, notching a fresh all-time high. The move wasn’t exactly NVIDIA-fueled, but with the stock clawing its way back to flat after last week’s post-earnings dip, it certainly didn’t weigh on sentiment. On the session, the S&P 500 gained 0.3%, the Nasdaq 100 rose 0.6%, and the Russell 2000 added 0.2%. Focus now shifts to tomorrow morning’s PCE inflation print.
Away From Stocks: Treasury yields flattened: the 2-year settled at 3.62% (+3 bps), while the 30-year eased to 4.88% (–3 bps). In commodities, WTI crude pushed above $64 a barrel and gold climbed to $3,417 per ounce. In digital assets, Bitcoin slipped back below $112,000, while the VIX closed just above 14.
