Stock Market Update Monday March 16, 2026 The SPX traded within a narrow range around 6700. All sectors ended positively, with Tech and Consumer Discretionary showing significant gains, a shift from the previous week's performance. Even Energy stocks closed higher despite the drop in oil prices. Oil prices eased at the start of the week, causing the dollar, yields, and implied volatility to fall, while stocks rose. Equities experienced a widespread but controlled rally, not indicative of a short squeeze or panic buying.

Score Board:

  • SPY +1.02%

  • QQQ +1.1%

  • IWM +1%

Oil prices decreased from over $100 over the weekend to around $93 today. Other assets are still generally trading in line with oil prices during the day. While price fluctuations continued today, they weren't as drastic as they were for most of last week.

The dollar weakened slightly, with the DXY index falling below 100 to approximately 99.70.

Yields also decreased, with the US 10-year Treasury yield returning to 4.22%.

Gold experienced a slight decrease but remained just above $5,000, while Bitcoin continued its upward trend, climbing back to about $74,000.

The VIX (volatility index) decreased to 24. It's unlikely to fall near 20 until the situation with Iran improves significantly.

Our investment approach is disciplined and long-only. We do not engage in short selling. In our long-term portfolio, we focus exclusively on high-quality companies with a demonstrated history of operational excellence and consistent shareholder value creation. However, in our short-term speculative portfolio, some stocks we post may be driven by other factors, such as notable options flow, proprietary algorithms and seasonality. We rely on our proprietary algorithms to identify high-probability entry points, whether to initiate new positions or to strategically add to existing holdings.
