Stock Market Update Friday October 3, 2025 Equities endured another volatile session, with an early surge suggesting a potential breakout to fresh highs—most notably in small caps—before sellers reasserted control midday. Profit-taking appeared to gather momentum following rate-cut caution from Dallas Fed President Logan. Despite the intraday reversal, the S&P 500 still finished the week higher, gaining +1.1% to notch another record close. Sector performance was mixed: the Nasdaq retreated, while small caps and industrials outperformed.

Score Board:

  • S&P 500 (SPX): +0.0%

  • Nasdaq 100 (QQQ): -0.4%

  • Russell 2000 (IWM): +0.7%

Away From Stocks: Treasury yields firmed, rising 2–5 basis points across the curve. Commodities diverged, with WTI crude trapped below $61/barrel, while gold extended its rally to $3,884/oz. Digital assets softened as Bitcoin slipped back to $122,000. Volatility remained subdued, with the VIX holding just under 17.
