Stock Market Update Friday May 15, 2026 Equities came under broad selling pressure Thursday, with the S&P 500 declining 1.2% and giving back most of the week’s advance as persistent weakness across the rates complex weighed heavily on investor sentiment and risk assets.

Away From Stock: Treasurys closed near their intraday lows, with the 2-year yield rising nine basis points to 4.09% and the 30-year yield climbing 10 basis points to 5.12%, underscoring continued upward pressure on long-duration borrowing costs. WTI crude rallied above $101 per barrel, while gold extended its recent pullback to $4,541 per ounce amid higher yields and a firmer dollar backdrop. In digital assets, bitcoin fell to $79,000 as volatility in the crypto market accelerated. Meanwhile, the VIX settled at 18.4, up more than a point on the session, reflecting increased demand for downside protection and a rise in market uncertainty.
