Stock Market Update Friday April 24, 2026 Stocks staged a strong rebound, gaining 0.8% to more than reverse yesterday’s losses. The SPX ground higher throughout the session to notch fresh all-time highs. While Iran-related headlines continued to create intraday volatility, the market’s attention is clearly rotating toward earnings as the primary directional catalyst.

From a sector perspective, leadership once again came from technology—both on the day and for the week. Intel’s earnings report helped power another leg higher in semiconductors, building on the momentum created by Texas Instruments earlier in the week. The SMH ETF gained roughly +8% for the week, helping offset weakness in software, where the IGV ETF finished lower following the sharp post-earnings selloff in ServiceNow. With Microsoft and several other mega-cap names set to report next week, investors should expect increased dispersion and stock-specific volatility across the sector.

Away From Stocks: Treasuries rallied in a bull-steepening move, with the 2-year yield falling five basis points to 3.78%, while the long bond eased to 4.91% from 4.92% on Thursday. WTI crude retreated to $95 per barrel, gold edged above $4,700 per ounce, bitcoin consolidated recent gains near $78,000, and the VIX declined below 19, signaling a modest easing in risk aversion.
